RUBY & STRIPE PUPS
INTRODUCTION:
Wirehaired dachshunds are neat, with typically feisty personalities and great hunting instincts that reflect their terrier heritage. Both Ruby and Stripe are wires, and these girls are, too. They were born April 26, 2010, and will be ready for pickup on June 21 - NO EARLIER, by State law!
THE PARENTS:
RUBY is our shortest-wirehair, almost smooth in appearance, but she's all wire in temperament - very loving, a great mom, but she could go out and tirelessly hunt all day with the best of them. Wires are great verminators, ridding a home of mice, rats, chipmunks and whatever other critters there might be.
STRIPE is a wheaten-brindle, where the dark brindle striping almost completely obscures his ripe-wheat base color, turning him a deep blue with hints of gold - it's hard to see except when we've clipped him nearly to his hide, usually for the summer. He has a number of champions in his bloodlines, and has been shown, winning his classes each time.
The parents' photos are posted below their puppies' descriptions.
REMEMBER - YOUR DEPOSIT HOLDS YOUR PUPPY FOR YOU; OTHERWISE IT'S FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED!
Shaggy and scrappy as any terrier, it is believed that wirehair dachshunds were the result of crossing smooth doxies with wirehaired or rough terriers. The AKC Breed Standard says the ideal wirehair dachshund has short, smooth hair, not sticking out in all directions, but doxies don't read and our dogs typically have "crazy hair," except for Ruby. Her daughters have her rough, coarse wirehair, and they're shaping up to be lovable and sweet - they haven't been nearly as rowdy as some other wires we've had, but they're still young yet!
THE MOTHER:
Flicks Ruby Red Whine MW is a sweet little light-red wirehair, born Oct. 3, 2006, the daughter of Randy, an American cream piebald smoothcoat, and Sparky, a wheaten wirehair. Sparky had a very calm demeanor for a wire, which she gave in good measure to Ruby. Of our wires, Ruby has been the very calmest, best little mama - she's a love to her pups and to her people!
THE FATHER:
Flicks Earning My Stripes MW - Stripe is a busy fellow with a Jimmy Durante nose, and he's just as friendly and amiable as Mr. Durante was. Actually, if Stripe could go hunting, he'd probably be our best tracker - did you know dachshunds have some bloodhound in their history?! Long hound ears to cup the scent around their excellent hound noses make doxies great trackers - they can follow a scent many other breeds would miss - being close to the ground helps a lot, too!

THE PUPPIES:
PUPPY #1 is a TEENY-WEENY wienie-girl, red and turning lighter, with a charming raccoon-mask on her eyes that is fading as she matures. She could turn out a "plain ol' red," or the lovely gold of a wheaten wirehair - only time will tell. She's the very best chance of being a non-brindle wheaten we've had in the last two years, but she also has a little kink at the end of her tail. She's going to stay tiny, cute and kinky, all her life - you can love watching her grow up for only $450, and without AKC papers - we don't allow papers on kink-tails.
PUPPY #2 is a red brindle wirehair with a rough-looking coat that may grow out longer than Ruby's, following in Stripe's bushy footsteps. She rather resembles Phyllis Diller, with her chronic "bad hair day"! She's about twice the size of her tiny sister and is a deep, dark mahogany tone, with the black brindle stripes on her red background coloring.
I'M ALREADY SPOKEN FOR!
PUPPY #3 is another dark red brindle, but with the shortest, smoothest hair of any pup in this litter, and also has a barely-discernible kink-tail, so she'll be sold without papers, too. The largest in the litter, she's sweet as honey and good as gold - she wants a family who will treat her like the little princess she is. Her asking price is also $450.
