TAFFY & BLUE'S PUPS
Flickennel - Dachshunds with ALTITUDE!!!
INTRODUCTION:
These gorgeous and unusually-colored pups were born August 20, 2011, and were ready to head out to their new homes on October 15.
TAFFY is one of the most unusual red dapples we've ever seen, let alone produced here at Flickennel. She's a light red longhair, with almost creamy dapples: most red dapples have darker spots, not lighter, but she carries dilute genetics. She also carries piebald, so she has some white, as well as her dapple-blue eye that really makes her stand out from the crowd.
BLUE is a longhaired blue & tan, one of our smaller sires, so we really like using him with our small girls, especially those carrying the dilute gene - blue is the dilute of black, and it takes two dilute parents to produce dilute pups. Also, two longhair parents can only produce longhair pups, so that's all we have in this litter.
Be sure to scroll down and see the parents' photos below their puppies' descriptions.
THE PUPPIES:
PUPPY #1 is now the same blue & tan as her father, shown below. Blue can range anywhere from almost-black to pale smoke-gray, but is usually a rich gray known as "Russian blue." This adorable girl is just that and is absolutely beautiful. She's priced at $600, or $650 with full AKC registration.
PUPPY #4 is black & tan - whew! That was an easy one! He's still a handsome little fellow, and with his pedigree he can only be fun, charming, sweet as licorice candy, and a delight to be held and loved. He can be your new best buddy for $450 with his AKC papers, or only $400 without them.
MOTHER:
TAFFY, pictured above, is one of the most outstandingly colored and marked little girls we've ever produced, but she's out of our best family lines, too. Her sire is Cash, our "King of the Kennel," and mother is Apricot Brandy (both shown below). Both of Taffy's parents carry the dilute gene, and there's a lot of dapple - just look at Cash! Both Brandy and Cash have excellent temperaments, too, which they shared in good measure with their daughter - she's a doll!
If you've ever drooled over Cash, and everybody does, why not grab one of his grandchildren in this litter? They're going to be outrageously beautiful and very pleasant natured, just like their Grandpa.
FATHER:
BLUE is our faithful little blue-and-tan longhair who does such a great job with our small girls, particularly the creams, blues and isabellas - dilute plus dilute equals dilute! He is one of the ancestors of our two blue girls who went to Australia in August 2011, so he has every right to be proud of his reproductive accomplishments! Blue is a great little sire in his own right, just not quite as spectacular looking as Cash!

Taffy and babies, shortly after their birth - aren't they the colorful bunch?!
This is Taffy's mother, Apricot Brandy, an exceptionally pale American cream 'tuxedo'-style piebald, with white in a band around her graceful neck, on her face, feet and tail-tip. She's a beauty, and just as sweet-natured as her name suggests. All the pale coloring in Cash, Brandy and Blue is caused by "dilute" genes, which "fade" the original black to blue, red to cream, or chocolate to isabella. Cash is also a "reverse dapple," so he in NO way looks like the black & tan dapple he's supposed to be! Dachshund genetics are fascinating and mystifying - and we love trying to figure them out. With these dilute genes, it's kind of like taking the same old cake recipe ingredients, mixing them together a little differently than you've ever done, and concocting something absolutely new and incredibly delicious. We know several other breeders actively engaged in this project, coming up with amazing new and beautiful colors in their dachshunds.
